So a couple Saturday’s ago we finally saw Julie & Julia and I loved it! I read the book and had a hard time getting through the first part of it. I don’t know what it was but it was hard for me to bond with the author. I have to admit though, by the middle of the book I was hooked and had to see it through. The information about Julia Child was great and Meryl Streep did a wonderful job portraying her! There was a scene in the movie where Julie made a dessert called Raspberry Bavarian Cream. It looked delicious and Isabella wanted some right then. She did a search on the internet and...

I used Martha’s pie crust recipe. One of the best things about pie baking is the extra crust dough that I roll out and sprinkle with cinnamon & sugar. I only made a single/bottom crust for this so there wasn’t much extra dough for the crisps but everyone will get a small taste. I was inspired by Posie Gets Cozy to make this Sour Cream Apple Pie. I love to bake and I like to make apple pie but wanted to try something different. I’ll let you know how we like it after we dive into it tonight. My photographs aren’t nearly as good as Alicia Paulson’s but I try. I...

I saw the recipe for these strawberry cupcakes on Martha Stewart.com and I was craving cupcakes. They weren’t too difficult to make but I didn’t quite follow the frosting recipe, because frosting recipes always seem to make way too much frosting and I waste half of it. I adjusted the frosting to 1 stick of butter and 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar. My frosting came out pretty pink and not as smooth as the picture on the website. They tasted pretty good, but the frosting had a little bit of a bite to it. It may be that the frozen strawberries were a little tart or it is the powdered sugar I...

Pie a la mode
Dante joined a baseball league so Sunday we went to the school field to practice throwing the ball, catching and batting. It was a beautiful day! Dante has a pretty good arm on him but needs a little practice catching the ball. He is doing a great job and we are excited for his team practices to start on April 13th. Ralph also practiced playing catch with Bellla. Bella has a great arm too, but is a little afraid to catch the ball. I was a little afraid that she might miss and knock out her teeth with her newly added braces. Luckily there were no injuries. Sofia got her...

I had a taste for pizzelles and I haven’t made them in a long time. We’ve had the maker for years bought before we even got married. I somehow misplaced the recipe book when I took it out last week and never got around to making the cookies. Not to worry though, because I found a great recipe on-line here. I tried to find one similar to what I remembered of my original recipe and I knew that it had melted butter so this one was pretty close. The trick about making pizzelles is figuring out how long to cook them. If you lift the iron too soon, the pizzelles are soft and flexible and if you...
